Big Sky is a beautiful and deeply moving album from two independent artists who have spent their life crafting music and song.
Under the Oak is Adam Monaco and Maggie Pope feat. Chris Peace, Peter Oswald, Jordon Alleman and Avery Ballotta (Damn Tall Buildings). They humbly share their hearts through songs born from the human experience and are inspired by the earth, sea, and sky.
With a sound that draws from the Folk, Americana, and Indie-rock worlds, their music is honest, approachable, and has been described as “compelling… emotionally stirring.”
Danie Ocean, a singer/ songwriter/ producer from the Philadelphia area, is on the rise. Combining a funky fusion of classic R&B overtones, and catchy pop dynamics, her sound is fresh and unique. As an artist that transcends genres from country to hip-hop, her sound has been labeled as, “Nu Soul;” a term coined by John Fisher, President of her record label, Winding Way Records.
Recently, Danie has teamed up with Grammy-winning producer, Vidal Davis. Ocean has been a longtime fan of Jill Scott and of Davis, (who produced Scott) so when she discovered that her own studio, Working While Playing, was in the same building as Davis’ studio, she took the opportunity to form a collaboration.
Davis is a legend in Philadelphia, from his humble beginnings working on DJ Jazzy Jeff’s production team, to writing or producing (along with his partner, Andre Harris) for industry heavy hitters such as, Usher, Chris Brown, Jill Scott, Jamie Foxx, Kanye West, Justin Beiber, Musiq Soulchild, Robin Thicke, Fantasia, and R&B legend Charlie Wilson.
Davis believes, “It’s the music that matters,” and the pair, in conjunction with Ocean’s band, are gearing up to release a 10 song LP in Spring of 2018 through Winding Way Records.
Ocean has played major independent venues like World Cafe Live DOWNSTAIRS, Chris’ Jazz Cafe and the Tin Angel, and has also played legendary venues like the Apache Cafe in Atlanta Georgia and The Sidewalk Cafe in New York City. In the past year, Danie Ocean has performed in New Orleans, Austin Red Gorilla Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival and several local venues in the Philadelphia area.
Adam Monaco, Maggie Pope and Producer Chris Peace crafted a sound rich in vocal harmonies, emotional swells, and intimate lyrics that is described as “friendship put to music”. The Big Sky LP also features contributions from Peter Oswald (Cello) and from Damn Tall Buildings‘ Jordan Alleman (Banjo) & Avery Ballotta (Fiddle), Kate Gipe on backing vocals and Jim Hamilton on percussion.
